From the recording from the collection "BEYOND"
This track represents a recent early experiment. It's might provide inspiration to Jazz fans, maybe some direction to composers, as well as attract investments by 3rd party investors . It's a sample of what is to come in a new release entitled "BEYOND Vol. 1" (see new releases.)
The older jazz community had been known to pigeonhole players in terms of their style-school, innovations, ethnicity, audience size, and of course playing facility. That's all been well documented. Yet, as as of 2025 the younger generation of improvisors tend to focus a bit more on "beats" related to fusion, rap, neo-soul, ensembles that comprise exotic combinations, gender, and climate issues. Undeniably, the racial inequality element has persisted. When it does it's done in both an "in your face" manner, and also at times with a lot more subtly.
Whereas most of Mark's distributed recordings have been intentionally built upon traditional principles and attitudes of jazz, this track reveals his entirely other muse: as an advanced poly-metric semi-free jazz composer and player. Tracks from BEYOND Vol 1 may just open the minds and hearts of jazzers who might have prematurely pigeonholed an artist's scope and development. Cynically speaking, given current litigation regarding evolving distribution platform business models interacting with copyright law worldwide, the relevance of all the above is must remain questionable from an artists perspective,
This track It is also frankly presented here to acquaint industry executives with an up-to-date, socially relevant, new signature sound and look for jazz.
