The "PURPLE BLUES PROJECT" refers to a series of ~10 jazz compositions that are based on the simple mood, harmony, of the first piece "LAVENDER BLUES”, written and initially recorded about 2002. We noted that although the piece was quiet, reflective, and relatively unchallenging to play - audience response had been strong in every way. We deconstructed the piece, and penned about 9 more according to various combinations of individual elements of the original which had communicated so strongly. This collection presents 6 of the selections, each also named for a variety of PURPLE. It was performed as a test recording by Mark and bassist DeWitt Kay. Despite several individual selections (Magenta Blues, Lilac Blues, Lavender Blues) being present on several distributed CDs here, the full project has still not been produced in its entirely for trio. The present collection is included to document those qualities which are shared across most selections.
